This morning we're heading to an ancient quarry to photograph costumed models. This quarry has been used to house prisoners of war dating back to ancient Athenians to modern day World Wars. It now houses a couple of outdoor amphitheaters but today it would serve as a location for our photoshoot.
We had a few minutes after we were put into groups to explore the grounds to pick locations to shoot in. Each team was issued a lighting set to use during the shoots. A few minutes later our five models, four females and one male, arrived dressed in a variety of costumes ready to pose.
We had staked out and area cut into the woods that seemed to fit our models. We were able to work with three different ones over the course of almost 3 hours. Because we liked our initial location we stuck with it for the entire time. It didn't seem to make sense to spend a lot of time moving around if we didn't need to. Probably my favorite model had a very interesting hooped skirt that was covered in flowers. She really looked like a nymph when we placed her in the woods. This was definitely a fun morning.
Several of us met for lunch when we returned from the quarry. A Putia was a busy little restaurant but we managed to find a table. The food was interesting and I was able to get some grilled veggies which made me happy. We had the afternoon free so I did a little shopping on the way back to the hotel. It was nice to have these scattered free time slots during the trip.
Late in the afternoon we gathered to take a boat tour of the harbor. The island featured cliffs that included little caves that we explored. The boats would pull inside them and give us a few minutes to look at the cave interior. It was a little surprising to see multicolored rocks inside. We also enjoyed champagne and several charcuterie boards during the tour. I would recommend doing this if you visit this lovely city.
Because we had filled up on the meat and cheese offerings on the boat, some of us decided gelato would be the perfect end to the evening. We returned to our favorite shop close to the hotel for our dessert.
Tomorrow: Final Class
